Algeria lost 3-0 to Argentina as Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick, then came from behind to beat Jordan 2-1 through Nadhir Benbouali and Amine Gouiri. A spectacular 3-3 draw against Austria allowed it to finish third with four points and reach the round of 32. Switzerland then eliminated Algeria 2-0. Its record was one win, one draw and two defeats, five goals scored and nine conceded. Algerian supporters nevertheless made a major impression in the host cities.
