Côte d’Ivoire beat Ecuador 1-0, then lost 2-1 to Germany. It secured qualification by defeating Curaçao 2-0 and finished second in Group E with six points, level with Germany. This was the first time in its history that Côte d’Ivoire advanced beyond the group stage after three previous first-round exits. In the round of 32, the Elephants lost 2-1 to Norway. Their final record was two wins and two defeats.
